Akilia 2015 San Lorenzo Bierzo

Produced from 70 year-old Palomino and Doña Blanca, planted on a west facing vineyard in Bierzo, this is fermented and aged in neutral barrels, and is one of the finest Spanish whites I have tasted year to date. Aromas are slightly spicy and, at the same time, reminiscent of Burgundy with white fruit and citrus. On the palate the wine is certainly riper than Burgundy (as it should be in sunny España) but delicious, both creamy in texture and with plenty of cut as well.
