The 2024 Tatto is absolutely singing right now. It is a very similar amalgamation of aromatic white grapes as in years previous. A veritable wine based dole whip. All that talk about stars and suns…it IS sunshine. You almost have to squint your eyes a little bit when you gaze upon it. ’24 seems more precise, as well…a bit more linear, a bit more focused, polished even? Tropical fruit meets warm brown spices and playful, nuanced florality. I absolutely love this wine for it’s ability to deliver on so many levels. When the mood strikes, you can fully nerd out on the layered complexity of the thing, after all … it’s 8 different grapes from 7 wildly different vineyard sites. Conversely, it is utterly just delicious, begging you to take another sip. And then another.
A super classic blend of Friulano, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Gruner Veltliner, Malvasia Bianca, Kerner, Trebbiano, Moscato Bianco, you know? Vinified separately, all of these are very lightly, gracefully, tactfully (hence the Italian term “Tatto’) skin fermented to amplify aromatics and provide a not overwhelming but persistently gentle measure of structure on the palate. Is it bright, floral, fruit loops, citrus insanity? Yes. Is it deep, spicy, textural and somehow still a refreshing late summer / early fall sunset? Also yes. That my friends, is Tatto. The bombastic and imminently drinkable skin contact one.
