Description

"The Chapelle-Chambertin grand cru vineyard faces east on a well-drained, gentle slope on the lower hillside east of Chambertin-Clos de Bèze. It is said that the small Notre Dame de Bèze chapel on this site was intentionally burned in the 1830s so that the land could be planted to more vines. This wine comes from a 2.2-hectare (5-acre) plot covered with thin, stony, limestone soils, around the original La Chapelle vineyard; the vines were planted in 1947. The bouquet is disarmingly hedonistic, with hints of violets and honeysuckle layering the opulent, dark-cherry expression. The palate demonstrates quintessential elegance— silk on velvet—with delicious length to the dark fruit and earth flavors." - Bowler

"An expressive style, featuring black cherry, black currant, iron, earth and oak spice flavors. Dense and powerful, building to a long, fruit-, mineral- and spice-filled aftertaste. Best from 2023 through 2043. From France."
- Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, June 2017

"A restrained, elegant and ripe nose blends notes of black currant liqueur with spice, earth and soft floral scents that are trimmed in just enough wood to notice. There is both good volume and density to the seductively textured and rich medium weight flavors that terminate in a youthfully austere and impeccably well-balanced finale that exhibits a touch of bitter cherry."
