Description
Mario Rovira makes the Akilia wines in Bierzo country, Northwest Spain where Castilla y Leon meets Galicia. The Akilia vineyards are on the slopes of the Aquilianos Mountains, the mountains of the Eagles, and the 4 hectares are divided into 3 parcels ranging in soil type and vine age (72-112 years old). All 3 parcels are farmed organically. All grapes are hand harvested.
The Villa de San Lorenzo Blanco is 100% Palomino Fino from the Fontairo parcel of 75 year old vines grown on a west-facing slope with loamy clay soil over a slate bedrock. After hand harvesting the grapes are fermented in steel, temperature controlled tanks, aged in steel with fine lees for 5 months then for a further 7 months in 228L used French oak barrels. Bottled unfined, unfiltered, non-fortified, and with low SO2.
